There are plenty of reasons to hire a private investigator. Maybe you have an infidelity issue, child custody, surveillance and even fraud. These professionals are trained to get to the bottom of any issue you throw at them. However, one question that is not always asked is: “what type of CLIENT do you plan to be?” Understanding what type of client or attorney is best for the investigator can really drive the outcome of the case at hand.Through experience, Covert Results has established the type of client or attorney that you should strive to be, in an effort to best further your case.
First, when you’re explaining your situation is to outline your expectations. If you want your investigator to go all the way to the end of your case then that should be planned in the beginning. Always remember your investigator is not magic and there’s not always going to be an immediate solution.Expectations should be communicated at the initial contact as well as through the case because they could evolve. Communication to your investigator can show your willingness to help and keep up accountability. However, there is such a thing as calling too much. Spending too much time on the phone with you can, at times, hinder the investigator’s ability to fully conduct services. Also, all expectations should be planned and outlined in your contract.
All of Covert Results’ clients and attorneys are required to sign a contract. The best thing you can do for yourself is read that contract! Do not sign something that you haven’t fully read. Be sure the contract is in line with your expectation for the course of the case. The contract is also there to protect your interest as well as Covert Results’. Another thing to keep in mind is the professionalism of your private investigator. They have experience in this type of work; try to trust that they know what they’re doing. Covert Results strives to work in the best interest of our clients from start to finish, any recommendations made are to your benefit. Trust your investigator, yes, but don’t forget to answer questions promptly. This goes back to keeping up the right amount of communication, answer timely but not excessively.
Even through good communication and a strong contract, there is never a guarantee. Just because you believe something is going on doesn’t mean it actually is. Be sure to prepare yourself for any and all outcomes. That includes finding nothing. Investigators will do their best to try and work with the client by all legal means necessary. This could also mean trusting the investigator when they say there’s no more work to be done. Some extra tips for attorney’s would be to communicate what may help your case the most. As an expert in legal proceedings you will know the direction you want the case to move. Be sure to point your investigator in that direction. Provide any and all materials to your PI as soon as possible, the investigator needs to be as well versed in the issues at hand as you are. The attorney should also decide who they would like to be the point of contact and ultimately “in charge” of the case. If you would like direct communication to your client, advise your investigator of those details. Finally, keep up the communication. Covert Results have shared files in place so the attorney and client can see everything that is being worked on by our investigators.
These tips can truly help your case run as smoothly as possible. If we can all work as a team, we will be able to have the best outcome.
