Covert Results owner Robert “Bobby” Young sat down with WKRN News 2 following the announcement that the man responsible for the 2024 hit-and-run death of Smokin’ Thighs owner Matt Carney pleaded guilty.
More than two years after Carney was struck outside his own Wedgewood-Houston restaurant, the Nashville-Davidson County District Attorney’s office announced that Ulises Martinez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and two theft charges. Under the plea agreement, Martinez will serve 20 years in prison before being deported.
Young — a friend of Carney’s, a retired Metro Nashville Police officer, and the owner of Covert Results — assisted in locating the suspect vehicle during the investigation, helping lead authorities to Martinez.

“It’s a good outcome,” Young told WKRN News 2. “He’s going to serve 20 years and then be deported at the end of it. If it was to go to a trial, it would probably be in another two or three years from now.”
